Background

UrbanSense collaborated with Friends of The Underline to create a first-of-its-kind Technology Master Plan that integrated cutting-edge strategies to transform the park into a dynamic, tech-enabled community hub.

UrbanSense Approach

UrbanSense key contributions included:

  • Strategic Plan Development: Crafting a comprehensive master plan for technology integration to enhance visitor engagement, streamline operations, and attract donors.

  • Board Communications Material: Developing materials to align stakeholders and secure approvals for key initiatives.

  • Linear Lab Development: Supporting the concept and approval of Linear Lab, a unique space for innovation and education.

Outcomes

As a result of UrbanSense’s efforts, Friends of The Underline was the recipient of a $2M Urban Forestry Grant to expand its resiliency efforts and fund capacity building. This builds on $800k committed by the Knight Foundation to expand high-speed internet connectivity (another key initiative from the Plan), including matching government funds that will catalyze an additional $3.2 million. Knight committed $250k for the High Line Network to launch a Tech and Public Space Accelerator.
