Background

Vantage Airport Group, as the lead developer and terminal manager for LaGuardia Gateway Partners, spearheaded the $4 billion redevelopment of Terminal B to create a more modern, efficient, and engaging airport experience. As part of this effort, Vantage sought to integrate digital infrastructure and smart technologies to optimize passenger flow and enhance commercial opportunities.

UrbanSense Approach

UrbanSense, as part of Intersection, conducted a comprehensive digital assessment of Terminal B’s operations and passenger journey, identifying key opportunities for improvement. The team developed a Digital Master Plan that recommended:

  • Real-Time Information: Implemented passenger systems to improve navigation and wait time transparency.

  • Interactive Services: Developed digital solutions to enhance engagement and streamline airport processes.

  • Seamless Experience: Integrated smart technologies to create a smooth and stress-free journey for passengers.

Outcomes

The implementation of UrbanSense’s recommendations has helped transform Terminal B into what Governor Hochul has described as a “world-class destination”, internationally recognized for its modernized travel experience. By enhancing passenger flow, reducing bottlenecks and wait times, and optimizing retail and dining experiences, the project has created a seamless, stress-free journey, positioning Terminal B as a model for future airport transformations.
