UrbanSense partnered with Mitsui Fudosan to design a Digital Master Plan and conduct a Feasibility Assessment aimed at revitalizing Nihonbashi. Our approach emphasized leveraging technology to enhance accessibility, engagement, and economic activity while preserving and enhancing the district’s cultural heritage and legacy businesses.

UrbanSense Approach

We worked with Mitsui staff to define critical experiences for residents, visitors, and workers in this historic district that is undergoing transformative change and revitalization.

UrbanSense worked closely with Mutsui Fudosan to develop:

  • Strategic Planning: Developing forward-looking initiatives to improve access to and engagement with retail businesses, public spaces, residences, and office buildings.

  • Feasibility Studies: Evaluating the viability of proposed initiatives based on:

    • Technological complexity.

    • User engagement potential.

    • Business sustainability, including cost and revenue projections.

  • People-Centric Focus: Aligning the plan with Mitsui Fudosan’s goal of “making people happy” through enhanced interactions with the neighborhood.

  • Organizational Design: Recommending underlying technology and structural changes to support and sustain the initiatives.

Outcomes

UrbanSense’s Digital Master Plan set the foundation for innovation and economic growth in Nihonbashi, with anticipated impacts including increased economic activity, enhanced user experience, and sustainable growth.

We defined and prioritized future user journeys and experiences for Nihonbashi that harmonize community well-being and good urban form with business growth.
