Background

This initiative aimed to unite experts across public, private, and nonprofit sectors to research, develop, test, and implement innovative solutions addressing climate change, health, and equity, in a place that capitalizes on the connectivity of New York City.

UrbanSense Approach

UrbanSense offered customized support to establish the Climate Solutions Center, focusing on the following key areas:

  • Nonprofit Launch: Strategically coordinated the establishment of a dynamic new organization.

  • Advisory Board Engagement: Assembled influential leaders from diverse sectors to provide key insights.

  • Mission & Strategy Development: Defined a compelling mission, strategic vision, and sustainable business model for the Center.

  • Expert Collaboration: Fostered partnerships among top professionals to drive innovative and impactful solutions.

Outcomes

The Sustainable Development Commons was designed as an umbrella organization to support institutions, host experts from all sectors and backgrounds, and establish a global hub for educational and public programming related to sustainable development.

The heart of SDCs is organizing a series of Commons - groups of independent organizations that each focus on advancing solutions to address a specific set of sustainable development goals. Commons will unite experts across sectors, backgrounds, and disciplines including scientists, researchers, frontline communities, nonprofits, relevant businesses, and political leaders to form project-based teams.

The physical location where the activities of the Commons will occur - i.e., where world-leading institutions, diverse communities, experts from all backgrounds, entrepreneurs, inventors, and established businesses - will convene within a single physical hub, all dedicated to the mission of advancing sustainable development solutions to achieve real change.
